The Southwestern Community College District announced Wednesday that its governing board unanimously approved the hire of Minou Djawdan Spradley as the district’s vice president for academic affairs.
Spradley most recently served as San Diego City College’s vice president of instruction, but had held administrative roles for 10 years. She has also served as the dean of both City College’s School of Engineering Technologies, Mathematics, Sciences and Nursing and the School of Arts, Humanities, Languages and Communications.
“Southwestern College serves a population of students with unquestioned potential for whom studying at Southwestern College can make life- altering differences,” Spradley said. “Quality education is a right afforded to all of those who come through our doors.”
In her new position, Spradley will oversee enrollment planning and development of the college’s instructional programs. She will also serve as Southwestern College’s accreditation liaison office, according to the district. She plans to tour the college’s four campuses and the Crown Cover Aquatic Center in the coming months to absorb information about the college’s programs and services.
“Spradley’s experience as a faculty member, department chair, dean and vice president give her the foundation to build upon our strengths and offer insight into our opportunities,” said Kindred Murillo, the college’s superintendent and president. “Minou immigrated to the United States from Iran, bringing with her an experience that connects her to our students’ needs and experiences.”
Spradley’s first day in her new position will be March 1, according to the college.
