Richard H. Leib of Solana Beach has been promoted from school board to the University of California Board of Regents.
First elected to the Solana Beach school board in 2008, he ran unopposed in 2016. His current term ends in 2020.
Gov. Jerry Brown’s office announced Monday that Leib, president and chief executive officer at Dunleer Strategies since 2018, was one of four additions to the 26-member UC Board of Regents.
Also named were:
- Laphonza Butler, 39, of Los Angeles, president of SEIU United Long Term Care Workers Union since 2010.
- Michael Cohen, 45, of Sacramento, director at the California Department of Finance since 2013, where he was chief deputy director for budget from 2011 to 2013.
- And Cecilia V. Estolano, 52, of Pasadena, co-founder and chief executive officer at Estolano LeSar Advisors since 2011.
The position requires Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Leib is a Democrat.
A Del Mar Times story in 2016 noted that Leib also serves as a trustee of North Coast Repertory theatre in Solana Beach and as a board member of Temple Solel in Cardiff.
“He previously served six years on the Board of Governors of the California Community College System, including two years as president,” the paper said. “He was also one of the founding board members of Green Dot Public Schools, a nonprofit organization that operates charter schools in Greater Los Angeles.”
He was executive vice president and general counsel at Liquid Environmental Solutions from 2002 to 2017, Brown’s office said.
Leib was vice president at Lockheed Martin IMS from 1999 to 2001 and executive vice president and general counsel at U.S. Public Technologies from 1994 to 1999.
Leib also was co-founder of the Investment Management Group at Stone and Youngberg LLC from 1992 to 1994.
He was a legislative assistant to state Sen. Gary Hart from 1982 to 1988 and executive director at Agenda for the ‘90s from 1988 to 1990.
Leib was a Coro fellow from 1979 to 1980.
Leib earned a juris doctor degree from Loyola Law School and a master of public policy degree from Claremont Graduate University.
