San Diego Continuing Education will host a public open house at its César E. Chávez Campus in Barrio Logan on Thursday.

The free event for prospective students and families is scheduled from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 11 in the campus at 1901 Main Street.

Attendees will have an opportunity to tour the state-of-the art facility, computer labs, and nursing labs every 20 minutes, complete an online application, sign-up for orientations, and make counseling appointments.

The adult education division of the San Diego Community College District offers adult California residents more than 60 free short-term career training programs and thousands of free classes covering  automotive, business, welding, healthcare, home daycare and many other subjects.

“We are proud to welcome the community,” said Carlos O. Turner Cortez, president of continuing education. “Completing a free career training program is one of the fastest paths for individuals with barriers to change the trajectory of their lives and the lives of their family.”

He said continuing education students are often able to immediately qualify for entry-level jobs following the successful completion of a training program.
