The Francis Parker School announced Wednesday it will use its largest-ever philanthropic gift to set up a scholarship program to benefit students with financial need.

The school will launch the Head of School Scholarship program with $1.5 million from Jeff and Karen Silberman of Solana Beach.

The scholarships will provide additional funding to students in grades 6 through 12 who earn admission to Parker and demonstrate financial need. The school says the gift will increase Parker’s ability to educate students across all socioeconomic backgrounds.

The scholarship program will provide awards to help cover tuition, books, uniforms, clubs and activities, global trips, transportation and academic support, according to the school.
