Bill Earley, regional CEO for the Red Cross, holds a giant check from the Walmart Foundation.

Bill Earley, outgoing CEO of the American Red Cross chapter in San Diego, will be honored with a distinguished alumni service award, the San Diego State University Alumni Association announced Wednesday.

Earley has led the Red Cross chapter for three years. He is leaving next month to become the chief administrative officer and general counsel of West Health, a trio of nonprofits involved with seniors and health.

Earley is the only person to serve as president of SDSU Alumni, the Associated Students and the former Aztec Athletic Foundation — now known as the Aztec Club.

He will be among 10 honored at the 44th annual Monty Awards on Oct. 8, recognizing alumni and friends of the university.

Also receiving a special honor will be John Kolek, who recently retired as associate executive director of Associated Students. Kolek, who helped open and run Viejas Arena, will receive an award for distinguished service to the university.

  • Darla Anderson, a Pixar Animation Studios producer of such films as “Monsters Inc.,” “Cars” and “Toy Story 3,” and national board member of the Producers Guild of America;
  • Christine Probett, a retired engineer and executive of the aerospace firm Goodrich Corp. who now lectures in the College of Business and Weber Honors College;
  • Mark Snell, retired president of Sempra Energy, and former board member for the Fowler College of Business, Hubbs-SeaWorld Research Institute and Rady Children’s Hospital;
  • Daniel Goddard, director of the Information Directorate of the Air Force Research Laboratory, which researches command, control, communications, computers and intelligence, and cyber technologies;
  • Robert Kain, an early executive at San Diego-based genomics firm Illumina, and now chairman and founder of Mesa Rim Climbing and Fitness Center;
  • Dorothy Smith, past president of the San Diego Unified School District Board of Education and the city of San Diego Ethics Commission; and
