An investigation into a shooting in a Paradise Hills- area neighborhood led Friday to a very brief lockdown at nearby Pacific View Leadership Elementary School.
A wounded man who turned up at Paradise Valley Hospital in National City shortly before 8:30 a.m. reported having been shot in the vicinity of Landscape and Plateau drives, authorities said.
San Diego police alerted administrators at the Childs Avenue primary school about the crime, which had occurred a block to the east, prompting the precautionary campus alert.
About three minutes later, SDPD officials notified the school that the lockdown could be canceled, since officers had determined that the shooting had occurred hours earlier and there was no indication that the perpetrator was still in the area, said Shari Winet, a spokeswoman for San Diego Unified School District.
Operations at the campus then returned to normal, she said.
