A San Diego woman was reappointed Monday to the California Advisory Commission on Special Education, which advises state officeholders on developments in the field.

Gina Plate, 46, has served on the commission since 2012.

Plate is a senior adviser for special education at the California Charter Schools Association. Before that, she was director of education at the Seneca Center for Children and Families.

The Democrat, who earned a Master of Education degree in special education from the University of San Diego, does not have to go through a Senate confirmation process. There is no compensation for the position.

Last June, when she was re-elected chair of the commission, she said: “”I am honored to take on this challenge and know that the dedicated members of this Commission will make a lasting impact on all students throughout the state.”
