MiraCosta College has opened a new Technology Career Institute in Carlsbad offering cutting-edge training in machining, robotics, biotech manufacturing and other high-demand skills.

The facility allows MiraCosta to accommodate a growing number of students seeking training in high-tech specializations to meet local, regional and national demand in the coming years. Manufacturing is growing in the United States, with 60,000 jobs created last year.

“Companies that are headquartered or have locations in San Diego, such as Lockheed Martin, have an increasing need for qualified, trained engineers with specializations in robotics, biotech manufacturing and maritime technology, and our new campus is designed to help meet that workforce demand,” said Linda Kurokawa, director of MiraCosta’s Community Services & Business Development.

An open house is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m on Tuesday for community members, as well as current and prospective students to tour the facility and learn more about the programs being held there.
