Police officers searched Del Norte High School Thursday morning and planned to remain on the campus through the day as a precaution due to an anonymous online shooting threat, authorities reported.
The menacing, but apparently unfounded post — issued via the “Burnbook” application — was reported about 7 p.m. Wednesday, according to San Diego Police and Poway Unified School District officials.
The unidentified perpetrator’s comment about bringing a gun to the 4S Ranch campus was investigated and deemed not credible.
“But we treat all threats very seriously,” PUSD spokeswoman Jessica Wakefield said.
Shortly after the posting came to light, district officials contacted parents of Del Norte students, and police conducted a preliminary sweep of the Nighthawk Lane campus, finding nothing out of the ordinary.
Besides the presence of officers, it was business as usual this morning at the school, where final exams are underway, Wakefield said.
