More than $102 million in funds from unclaimed prizes and other California Lottery income went to San Diego County schools in the 2013-14 fiscal year, the state controller’s office announced Thursday.
Of the $1.348 billion in payments doled out statewide from the Lottery Education Fund, San Diego County school districts, educational institutions and state agencies, such as the departments of education and developmental services, received $102,459,303.85, state officials said.
The money for K-12 schools and community colleges was sent quarterly to the county Office of the Treasurer-Tax Collector. University of California schools’ portions were sent directly to the institutions and department funds were deposited directly into their accounts, according to the state controller’s office.
Only the $332.66 million paid to educational institutions in Los Angeles County and the $106.45 million to those in Orange County topped the amount given to San Diego County schools during the last fiscal year, according to figures provided by the state controller’s office.
