A man holding a long black object that turned to be an umbrella caused a lockdown Wednesday at California State University in San Marcos, a Sheriff’s deputy said.
At around 9 a..m. Sheriff’s deputies received calls of a possible gunman on campus. He was described as a bald, white man who was holding a rifle. The school was placed on lockdown, though classes were not yet in session.
“The gentleman was found and there was no weapon,” the school’s spokewoman Cathy Bauer said.
The all clear was given at around 9:45 a.m. The man, it turns out, was holding an umbrella, according to the Sheriff’s department.
The fall semester at Cal State San Marcos starts on Aug. 25 and orientation was scheduled for Wednesday.
