California State University San Marcos is offering free information sessions this week on certificate programs for careers in healthcare information technology and meeting and event planning.

Both programs, which are aimed at working adults, are offered through the university’s extended learning program in response to workforce needs in the San Diego region.

The university said that as paper-based medical and health records are replaced with electronic management systems there is a need for professionals who are trained to analyze, operate and manage these new technologies. The meeting and event planning program offers practical “need to know” tools and skills for event planners.

The session on healthcare information technology is scheduled for noon to 1 p.m. and Tuesday, and the one on meeting and event planning takes place from noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday. Both sessions are in the Foundation Classroom Building on the south side of the campus.
