An unidentified man who was lying in an El Cajon street early Saturday was struck and killed by a passing vehicle, according to authorities.
Officers with the El Cajon Police Department and Heartland Fire personnel responded to the 1300 block of East Main Street at 4:43 a.m. Saturday to a report of a collision between a westbound vehicle and a pedestrian near Jamacha Road and North Second Street.
“The pedestrian suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at a local hospital. It is unknown why the man had been lying in the street,” ECPD Lt. Kevin Reilly said in a statement.
“The driver remained on scene and was cooperative with investigators. DUI does not appear to be a factor in the collision.”
The driver was not injured.
Officers closed the roadway for several hours Saturday while they investigated the scene. They asked anyone with information about the collision to call 619-579-3311.
