A rideshare driver was arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting his passenger on a North County highway and there may be more victims, California Highway Patrol officers said Sunday.
At approximately 2:30 p.m. Thursday, the CHP received a report from a 21-year-old woman who said a sexual assault occurred at about 2 a.m. that morning, according to Officer Jared Grieshaber. The woman was riding in a silver 2022 Honda Accord driven by a rideshare driver as it was traveling westbound on state Route 78 toward the Twin Oaks Valley Road off-ramp in San Marcos, he said.
Detectives arrested Ramon Ochoa Reyes, 50.
“Because Reyes worked as a rideshare driver, detectives are asking anyone who may have had a similar encounter with him to contact investigators,” Grieshaber said. “The woman reported that the driver touched her inappropriately and sexually assaulted her during the ride.”
CHP Oceanside-area officers began investigating the incident, then notified detectives from the CHP Border Division Major Crimes Unit. Anyone who believes they may have been a victim of the driver or who has information that could assist detectives was encouraged to contact the CHP Border Division Major Crimes Unit at 855-944-6300.
