The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday released surveillance photos of a 30-to-40-year-old man who allegedly sexually battered a 10-year-old girl in Poway.

Deputies from the Poway Station responded at 6 p.m. Saturday to reports of a juvenile assault near the 13400 block of Midland Road, according to the sheriff’s office.

The victim’s friend was with her and screamed for the suspect to stop his attack, prompting the man to flee the scene on an electric scooter. Deputies searched the area with the help of aerial support, but were unable to locate him, officials said.

Detectives from the sheriff’s office’s Child Abuse Unit took over the investigation and completed a canvas of the area.

The suspect is described as about 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a medium build and complexion. He has shaved black hair, a receding hairline, large nose, acne scars, bushy eyebrows and a beard. He was last seen wearing black sunglasses, a gray-colored hooded sweatshirt and black shorts, detectives said.

Authorities urged anyone with information about the attack to call the Sheriff’s Child Abuse Unit at 858 285-6222 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
