A La Jolla woman who had been sentenced to prison for a failed attempt to hire someone to kill her husband died by suicide last week in Little Italy.
According to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office, Tatyana Remley, 45, shot herself in a public square at 523 W. Date St. just before 9 p.m. on Thursday.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
She most recently made headlines after she was sentenced in 2023 to three years and eight months in state prison for trying to hire someone to murder her husband, Mark Remley.
During a sting operation, Remley told an undercover detective she wanted her husband killed and that his body should be disposed of. She brought three guns to the meeting with the undercover detective, as well as cash intended as a “down payment” for the murder.
She later pleaded guilty to solicitation to commit murder.
Following her release from prison, Remley was arrested and charged with arson, which according to reports involved an attempt to burn down the Del Mar mansion she and her husband once shared. Remley was slated to appear in a Vista courtroom in March for a preliminary hearing in that case.
She was also part of the husband-and-wife team behind a failed multimillion-dollar horse-themed show at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. More than a decade ago, the Remleys produced “Valitar,” a circus-style equestrian show that was canceled after only a few performances.
Vendors and employees were left unpaid, and nearly all materials associated with the show were auctioned off to pay back creditors.
Erik Martonovich, a competitive horse rider who was brought in to direct “Valitar,” told reporters in 2013 that the Remleys “had no clue what they were doing — about anything.”
