A 24-year-old man suspected of killing two men in separate camper trailers at a gated storage lot in the Nestor area was behind bars after he was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon.
Officers responded at approximately 3:25 a.m. Saturday to the 2000 block of Sunset Avenue, about a mile and a half north of the Mexico border, due to multiple reports of shots being fired.
The men were discovered inside separate camper trailers upon the officers’ arrival. The San Diego Police Department identified them as 42-year-old Aaron Cruz and 64-year- old Richard Hartung.
Both victims lived in the campers at the location, police said.
“With the assistance of city owned and private security cameras, investigators developed information about a possible suspect vehicle, a red Chevy Suburban,” SDPD said in a release. “Investigators canvassed the area and located a similar vehicle.”
Police spotted the vehicle at around 12:45 p.m. Tuesday in the 100 block of West Calle Primera, where officers stopped the car and took 24-year-old David Verduzco Kruglova into custody on suspicion of murder.
Anyone with information regarding the fatal shootings was urged to call San Diego Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
