Fire crews responded to several brush fires Friday, including in the city of San Diego and East and North County.

The city blaze was reported around 11 a.m. in the 113000 block of Carmel Valley Road in Torrey Highlands. Ground crews and personnel aboard a water-dropping helicopter had the
spread of the flames halted within about a half-hour, San Diego Fire-Rescue Department spokesperson Candace Hadley said.

The department said the fire had burned approximately 4 acres shortly before noon.

In Ramona, firefighters worked to extinguish a brush fire that spread over about three acres off state Route 78 and Horizon View Drive along the Ramona Grasslands County Preserve, according to Cal Fire San Diego. By 1:45, authorities reported that forward spread of the fire had been stopped.

There were no reports of structural threats.

According to Watch Duty, a nonprofit fire reporting service, helicopters responded to the area of Jamacha Boulevard and Sweetwater Springs Boulevard where it turns into Elevator Road northeast of Sweetwater Reservoir. Crews there fought a 3-acre blaze that by 1:45 p.m. was 10% contained with the forward spread stopped.

Watch Duty also noted small blazes Friday that burned less than an acre in Mission Valley and National City.
