The entirety of Interstate 5 near Camp Pendleton north of Oceanside was temporarily closed on Monday morning, due to a crash on the northbound side of the roadway that snarled traffic for miles.
It was unclear if anyone was injured in the crash, but there were reports that a helicopter was brought to the scene, possibly landing on the southbound lanes and forcing a closure of traffic in that direction.
The crash occurred around 7:40 a.m. Monday on the northbound I-5 about three and a half miles north of Harbor Drive, according to the California Highway Patrol.
It was unclear how many vehicles were involved, but the northbound lanes were shut down.
Southbound lanes of the freeway were reopened around 8 a.m., along with the left two lanes of the northbound freeway. The remaining northbound lanes reopened just before 9:30 a.m.
No further details were immediately available.
