The National City Police Department will host an invite-only “Use of Force Workshop” Saturday to educate the public on its policies, procedures, and legal standards involving the use of force by officers.

The event will be held from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the National City Police Department, 1200 National City Boulevard.

“We recognize that trust begins with understanding. This workshop is part of our continued efforts to promote transparency, provide meaningful dialogue, and ensure that our community understands how and why force is used, and the measures we take to minimize it,” National City Police Chief Alejandro Hernandez said in a statement.

The workshop will include:

  • An overview of department use-of-force policies and legal standards;
  • Discussions on real-life scenarios and de-escalation techniques;
  • A Q&A session with officers and command staff and;
  • Hands-on experience with virtual training simulations.
