Escondido police on Friday were investigating the death of a pedestrian after taking in the male driver who struck the victim for questioning.

At around 9:37 p.m. Thursday police received reports that a vehicle had hit a pedestrian outside a home in the 1600 block of S. Maple Street, according to OnScene.TV.

First responders located the victim and immediately began CPR, but pronounced the person dead at the scene.

Officers, though, summoned homicide investigators. It was unclear if the case is considered an accident or an act of domestic violence.

“Escondido Police Traffic and Investigations personnel are actively investigating the circumstances of this incident and there are no arrests at this time,” police said.

Police also stepped in to find care for several children inside the home, attempting to contact family members to take custody.

Anyone with information related to the fatality was asked to call Detective Patrick Hand at 760-839-4985 or the department at 760-839-4722.
