The U.S. Coast Guard reported that a small plane with six people aboard crashed Sunday afternoon approximately three miles west of Point Loma.

Petty Officer Ryan Graves said the Cessna 414 was reported down at 12:50 p.m. and crews had located a debris field.

The Coast Guard said in a post on X that a Jayhawk helicopter, a fixed wing aircraft, a cutter and two small boats have been dispatched to search for survivors. As of 11:30 p.m., no survivors had been reported.

The plane is a twin-engine propeller craft with seven seats. According to the Flight Safety Network website, the aircraft was bound for Phoenix and crashed shortly after takeoff from San Diego International Airport.

The National Transportation Safety Board stated on X late Sunday that it is investigating the crash.

The crash is the second in San Diego involving a large private aircraft within the past month. A business jet went down on Murphy Canyon on May 22, killing six.
