The California Police Athletic Federation will Saturday kick off the 2025 United States Police & Fire Championships, bringing together first responders from around the country to compete in athletic competition.

The 8 a.m. event, now in its 58th year, will feature several dozen activities — ranging from team sports such as basketball and soccer to individual competitions such as track and field, swimming, and CrossFit.

“The US Police and Fire Championships celebrate the unwavering dedication of our nation’s first responders while promoting wellness, teamwork, and friendly competition,” said James King, president of the California Police Athletic Federation. “The California Police Athletic Federation is thrilled to be hosting the games for their 58th year, and we look forward to another incredible showcase of talent and unity.”

The foundation is a nonprofit dedicated to promoting sports and physical fitness among first responders. The Police & Fire Championships will run through next Saturday, June 7. Many of the competitions will take place at Marriott San Diego Mission Valley, with venues such as Mesa College, Alesmith Brewing, the streets of Escondido, and the Kroc Ice Arena hosting others.

In past years, the competition has attracted thousands of athletes from law enforcement, firefighting, emergency medical services, customs, and corrections, as well as active and retired full-time employees from other eligible agencies or organizations.

The US Police & Fire Championships are one of three events that the CPAF presents, in addition to the bi-annual World Police & Fire Games and the First Responders Relay.
