A Coaster commuter train struck and killed a pedestrian Wednesday near Beacon’s Beach, authorities reported.

The fatality in the area of Vulcan Avenue and Jason Street in Encinitas was reported shortly after 9 a.m., according to the San Diego Country Sheriff’s Office.

The pedestrian, whose identity has yet to be released, died at the scene.

The sheriff’s Transit Enforcement Unit was called in to investigate, Lt. Jessica Boegler said.
