One man is dead following a solo vehicle crash into a tree in Vista on Saturday evening.

According to the Vista sheriff’s substation, a sedan failed to negotiate a right turn near the intersection of N. Santa Fe Dr. and N. Paseo Marguerita and collided with a tree. Its driver, a 30-year-old man, got out of the vehicle and left the scene.

A little over an hour later, deputies responded to a call about an unconscious person at the 200 block of Apollo Dr., also in the city of Vista. When they arrived, they discovered that the unconscious person was the driver of the sedan.

“Tragically, the person succumbed to their injuries,” the Vista station said in a release. “The cause of the crash is currently under investigation by Vista Sheriff’s Station Traffic Investigators and the Medical Examiner’s Office.”

The driver has not yet been identified.

Investigators are also looking into whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or captured the incident on video is asked to please call the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office at (858) 565-5200, or San Diego County Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477 to remain anonymous.
