A shooting in El Cajon left one man dead Thursday morning, and hours later a man police said knew the victim surrendered to investigators.
According to the El Cajon Police Department, gunfire erupted around 10 a.m. in the 300 block of N. First St.
Paramedics took Jaquis Holiday, 26, to a hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
“(The) preliminary investigation indicates this was an isolated incident and that the victim and suspect were known to each other,” Lt. Nick Sprecco said.
But about six hours after the shooting, the suspected gunman, Terrell Gibbs, 47, contacted El Cajon police and agreed to surrender, Sgt. Brandon Stanley said.
Detectives determined that the victim and the suspect argued before the shooting, the sergeant said.
Administrators at nearby El Cajon Valley High School and two elementary schools put the campuses on lockdown as a precaution, police said.
