A one-year-old was found unresponsive in a home in an unincorporated area bordering El Cajon on Tuesday and later pronounced dead at a local hospital, prompting an investigation by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies from the Rancho San Diego Station and paramedics from the San Miguel Fire Department responded to a medical emergency at approximately 11:30 a.m at a residence in the 1500 block of Penasco Dr., near Jamacha Rd. and Chase Ave.

When they arrived at the scene, medical personnel found the girl on the living room floor. Paramedics performed CPR and took the child to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead, sheriff’s officials said.
