An assault suspect fled and holed up in his East County home Friday, prompting a SWAT standoff that ended with his arrest.
He evaded deputies from around 10:30 a.m., according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office, until he was spotted about a mile from the residence early in the evening.
Authorities said Jaime Osorio, 35, the subject of an outstanding arrest warrant, ran from deputies with the Rancho San Diego Sheriff’s Station and fled inside his home in the 900 block of Gillespie Drive in Spring Valley.
After the suspect refused for about an hour to surrender, a special weapons and tactics team was called in, Lt. Patrick Fox said.
Deputies closed a stretch of the street while trying to make contact with the suspect, who did not respond to them but apparently texted family members during the impasse, the lieutenant said.
After a few hours, the inside of the home was searched by SWAT deputies, but Osorio was not found.
Just before 6 p.m., Osorio was seen by deputies running along the 900 block of La Presa Avenue. They established a perimeter, located Osorio hiding nearby and took him into custody without incident.
Osorio was booked into the San Diego Central Jail on the felony warrant, as well as charges of domestic violence, threats with intent to terrorize and assault with a deadly weapon.
The suspect, sheriff’s officials said, had been known to carry a gun, but it was unclear if he was armed during the standoff.
