The Escondido Police Department will conduct a DUI checkpoint operation at an undisclosed location Friday night.

The checkpoint will be conducted between 6 p.m. Friday and 1 a.m. Saturday, according to a department statement.

Police said the checkpoint location is based on information collected about previous crashes in the area involving drunken drivers.

Police said impaired driving can also involve more than alcohol, such as prescription and over-the-counter drugs. And while recreational marijuana is legal, driving under the influence of marijuana is illegal, police said.

Any drivers arrested at the checkpoint could be fined up to $13,500 and have their license suspended.
