A major road was shut down and an Amazon warehouse was evacuated Tuesday morning after a backpack full of possible explosives was discovered across the street in Otay Mesa.

According to Onscene.Media, a man was walking down Otay Mesa Rd. when he found a large backpack sitting on the sidewalk with no one near it. Out of curiosity, he opened the bag and discovered that it appeared to be full of grenades.

He flagged down border agents who were driving by. Border Patrol agents and San Diego sheriff’s deputies subsequently shut down the road in both directions.

The San Diego Sheriff’s Office’s Bomb and Arson Squad arrived at about 9:40 a.m. and an Amazon warehouse across the street was subsequently evacuated.

The bag contained twelve military-grade tear gas grenades, according to Onscene.Media. The investigation is continuing.
