A driver died on impact early Friday after he slammed into a tree in foggy conditions near Mission Bay.
The 2020 Jeep Wrangler, heading west on Quivira Way at a rate of high speed, left the road after hitting the east curb of a roundabout shortly before 5:30 a.m., according to San Diego police. The Jeep then entered a grassy area and hit the tree.
Police only described the driver as a 31-year-old male. The Jeep was reported as stolen by the owner a few hours after the collision.
The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department also responded to the scene. The police department’s Traffic Division will handle the investigation. It is unknown if alcohol was a factor in the collision.
