The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office is asking for witnesses to a New Year’s Day crash in Encinitas that left a bicyclist with life-threatening injuries.

The sheriff’s department says that they responded to a report of a collision at about 6 p.m. on Jan. 1 near the intersection of Encinitas Blvd. and Cerro Street.

They found that a 79-year-old woman who had been driving a Hyundai Elantra east on Encinitas Blvd. collided with a bicyclist just east of Cerro Street.

The 45-year-old man was transported to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. 

The cause of the crash is under investigation. The use of alcohol or drugs is not believed to be a factor in this collision.
