A man remained in custody Friday after his arrest by San Diego detectives in a 2023 fatal beating case in Mission Bay.
Lee Orozco, 34, was located by police at 900 Sea World Drive at approximately noon Thursday, authorities said in a news release. He was arrested and booked into San Diego Central Jail on murder, narcotics possession and encroachment charges.
He is accused in an attack on Eric Nelson, 51, who died Sept. 18, 2023, almost a month after he went to a local hospital and was treated for internal injuries. He told Northern Division detectives that he was beaten at North Cove at 1404 Vacation Road.
The Medical Examiner determined that the manner of death was homicide, and the cause was blunt force injury. The Homicide Unit took over the case.
During the course of the investigation, detectives learned that Nelson was confronted by a male at North Cove who punched and kicked him causing his injuries. Police did not say how they turned their focus to Orozco or his alleged motive.
