Cal Fire crews continued to mop up a vegetation fire in a rural area of the county Sunday morning that initially had the potential to reach 200 acres.
The fire was initially reported around 2:10 p.m. Saturday in the Otay Mountain Wilderness area, just east of Otay Mesa.
As of about 8:50 a.m. Sunday, the blaze had burned 98 acres, and containment was at 95%.
The fire’s forward progress was stopped. Meanwhile, numerous firefighting air tankers from throughout the state were flying fire suppression missions as conditions allowed.
A total of seven personnel were assigned to the fire, including two engines from one other supporting agency, officials said.
The San Diego Fire Department, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office, and the Bureau of Land Management assisted in the effort.
No evacuation orders were issued and no threats to any structures were reported.
The cause of the fire was not immediately clear.
