Firefighters were battling a vegetation fire in a rural area of San Diego County Saturday that had the potential to reach 200 acres, authorities said.

The Border77 Fire was reported at around 2:10 p.m. Saturday in the Otay Mountain Wilderness area, according to Cal Fire San Diego.

Firefighters continued to build containment lines after nightfall, with containment rising to 50% Crews had stopped the forward progress of the fire with 98 acres burned in the remote area east of Otay Mesa.

Nearing 5 p.m., the fire had spread to 58 acres and was 10% contained. “Crews are continuing to make good progress,” agency officials said.
