The California Highway Patrol on Tuesday continued to investigate the circumstances that led to a Chula Vista man’s death on state Route 52.

At approximately 2:26 p.m. Monday, CHP San Diego Area units received a call of a Ford F250 parked on the right shoulder of SR-52 eastbound, west of Regents Road, with an adult male lying on the right shoulder.

The victim, 50, who had been struck by a Ford Transit also traveling eastbound, sustained major injuries. Authorities pronounced him dead on scene. His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin by the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s office.

The driver of the Ford remained on scene and cooperated with investigators. The CHP is investigating whether drugs and/or alcohol were a contributing factor.
