A man who set fire to three cars at Fox 5 San Diego’s station in Kearny Mesa pleaded guilty this week to arson charges.
The flames set on the night of Feb. 26 also damaged a security gate access pad, a sensor, and the front entry door to the news station.
Some of the incident was captured by surveillance cameras, in which Dimitrius Cannon, 42, appears to use an aerosol can and a lighter to spark the blaze. Fox 5 employees were able to extinguish the fires and no injuries were reported.
Cannon was arrested two days later on Clairemont Mesa Boulevard, less than a mile away from the Fox 5 station. At the time of his arrest, San Diego police said, “Evidence was recovered from Cannon linking him to the arsons,” but police did not disclose a motive for the fires.
Cannon pleaded guilty to three arson counts on Thursday and stipulated a state prison term of six years and eight months. He’s set for sentencing next month.
