A man who allegedly fired about a half-dozen gunshots into an unoccupied parked car from inside a Mountain View-area home early Friday holed up inside when police arrived.
That prompted a brief SWAT standoff that ended in his arrest.
The gunfire – a series of three to six shots, according to witnesses – in the 200 block of Vista Horizon Street erupted at about 6 a.m., according to the San Diego Police Department.
When officers arrived, the suspect, later identified as Travis Kingston Kirk. 45, refused to exit the residence and surrender, Officer David O’Brien said. About an hour into the stalemate, police sent in a special weapons and tactics team.
The stalemate continued until shortly before 8 a.m., when Kirk walked out of the apartment and gave up, O’Brien said.
Inside the residence, officers found a semiautomatic rifle and several rounds of ammunition, according to police, who disclosed no motive for the shooting.
