Authorities on Friday sought a bearded man who may be connected to the death of a homeless woman found at a makeshift encampment near state Route 94.
The suspected homicide in the 8000 block of High Street in La Mesa was reported at about 10:30 p.m. Thursday, according to police.
The woman, 62, had suffered a severe head wound and died at the scene, La Mesa police Sgt. Jose Gaytan said.
Her name was not released until family can be notified.
Investigators were trying to identify and locate the bearded man seen leaving the area a few hours before the victim was found, Gaytan said.
Autopsy results are pending from the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.
