
San Diego police are asking for help from the public finding more information about a shooting that took place early Sunday morning in the Barrio Logan area that left an 18-year-old dead.
According to the San Diego Police Department, officers responded to three separate reports of gunfire around 12:12 a.m.,1:08 a.m. and 2:06 a.m. Sunday in the Chicano Park area at the South 5 onramp from Logan Avenue.
During the second call, police found multiple cartridge casings and a vehicle that had been struck by gunfire several times.
“At approximately 2:10 a.m. Sunday, a vehicle containing several men pulled into Paradise Valley Hospital. The occupants flagged down a San Diego police officer, who was at the hospital on an unrelated call,” the department reported in a statement. “The men directed the officer to an occupant of the car who had been shot.”
The victim died shortly afterward.
“Detectives are continuing to investigate this incident, including processing the scene for physical evidence, attempting to locate and interview witnesses, and canvassing the area for surveillance footage,” the statement said.
The statement added that the shooting may have happened on the freeway, and then the victim drove to Chicano Park.
