A man faces numerous charges after a privately made firearm was found during a Vista traffic stop, Sheriff’s officials said.

Just before 10:30 p.m. Friday near the 1900 block of West Vista Way, deputies with the Vista Sheriff’s Station Gang Enforcement Team stopped a white Ford sedan after spotting what they described as equipment violations and an expired registration.

During the traffic stop, the driver, Michael Beason, 36, authorities said, was found to be in possession of a loaded privately made firearm.

The weapons, commonly known as ghost guns, are not marked with serial numbers so there is no way to track their origins or owners.  This makes it harder for law enforcement to investigate or solve a crime involving such firearms.

Beason will be booked into the Vista Detention Facility on charges of possessing an undetectable firearm and other related charges.
