A 14-year-old boy was in a hospital in critical condition Friday following a hit-and-run on an Escondido street, and police are seeking help from the public finding the driver.

A 911 caller reported spotting the victim down in the roadway at about 9:25 p.m. Thursday in the 1100 block of North Fig Street, and then hearing a vehicle traveling out of the area to the south at high speed.

Police said the teen, an Escondido resident, may have been riding a skateboard at the time.

Paramedics took the victim to a trauma center for treatment of severe injuries, police said. He remains in critical condition.

The hit-and-run driver remained unidentified and at large Friday afternoon.

Anyone with information is asked to call Officer Paul Smyth at (760) 839-4423.
