A vehicle struck and killed a pedestrian Monday on Interstate 5 near San Elijo State Beach, authorities reported.
The traffic fatality took place about 2:30 p.m. on the southbound side of the freeway, north of Birmingham Drive in Encinitas, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The pedestrian, described as appearing to be homeless, died at the scene.
The victim’s identity was not immediately available.
