Thursday afternoon, firefighters worked several hours to contain a fire at an egg production facility near the 25800 block of Highway 78 in the rural community of Witch Creek in northeast Ramona.

Firefighters that responded to the scene were able to contain the fire to the 25,000 square-foot building.

While no injuries are reported, the fire is estimated to have caused $2 million in damage. Each building at the facility housed approximately 70,000 chickens. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the San Diego County Sheriff’s bomb and arson divisions according to a post on X by the San Diego County Fire Department.
