
Cal Fire is battling a vegetation fire that is burning on both sides of Interstate 8, east of Carrizo Gorge Road in the Jacumba community.
The fire is currently listed at 8.6 acres, and has the potential to reach up to 50 acres, according to the state agency.
Cal Fire said forward progress of the blaze was stopped just before 1 p.m., and crews will remain on the scene for several more hours to extinguish hot spots and construct control lines.
