A 26-year-old man was killed early Tuesday when someone apparently fired a gun from a sidewalk into his Oceanside apartment..
The shot went through a bedroom window at a residential complex in the 1800 block of College Boulevard at about 1 a.m., striking the victim in the head, according to the Oceanside Police Department.
Several of the occupants of the apartment fled outside, and two others took shelter in a bathroom, OPD said.
Paramedics took the victim — who did not live at the residence but was staying there with friends — to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
His name was withheld pending family notification.
Police said they had no description of the shooter, who remained at large as of Tuesday afternoon. The motive for the shooting was unclear, and it was unknown if it was random gunfire or a targeted killing.
