Thirty-one citations were issued for suspicion of driving under the influence at a DUI checkpoint in Chula Vista, authorities said Sunday.

The checkpoint was conducted from 6 p.m. Saturday to midnight in the 600 block of Palomar Street, according to the Chula Vista Police Department.

A total of 2,269 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, with six motorists stopped for secondary evaluations, the department reported.

Twenty-three drivers were cited for operating a vehicle unlicensed, eight citations were issued for unknown reasons and nine vehicles were impounded, police said.
