A fleeing drunk driver was arrested by San Diego Police on Sunday after two pedestrians were struck and seriously injured in a Pacific Beach crosswalk.
The collision occurred just after 2 a.m. as the man and woman were crossing Grand Avenue at Bayard Street.
They were hit by a Ford Explorer and sent flying. The driver sped off, but was later pulled over in the 3700 block of Ingraham Street.
He was tested for intoxication and arrested on suspicion of DUI and felony hit-and-run.
“Two people were legally crossing at the intersection when the driver ran a red light and hit them in the crosswalk. The driver was later taken into custody, but the exact location was unclear,” the San Diego Police Department told City News Service.
The victims, a 30-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man, were taken to a hospital to be treated for multiple fractures.
The identities of the two victims and the suspect were not immediately released.
