A 16-year-old boy was badly hurt Wednesday when the vehicle he was riding in crashed in a neighborhood near Lower Otay Lake.
The westbound Ford pickup truck veered off the roadway in the 1800 block of Hunte Parkway in Chula Vista and struck a tree and a fire hydrant at about 7:30 a.m., according to the Chula Vista Police Department.
The driver, described only as a minor, pulled the unconscious passenger out of the severely damaged vehicle prior to the arrival of emergency personnel, Officer Jack Lee said. Paramedics took the latter youth to a hospital for treatment of severe injuries.
The cause of the accident was under investigation, though intoxication did not appear to have been a factor, Lee said.
