Two local residents who allegedly distributed fentanyl that led to a Carlsbad woman’s overdose death were charged in a federal grand jury indictment returned Wednesday.

Bryan Kim Bullard, 43, of San Diego, and Cameron William Fulston, 29, of Carlsbad, are accused in the sale of fentanyl that caused the Sept. 15, 2023, death of a 25-year-old woman identified in court records only as D.G. The indictment includes multiple counts, including conspiracy to distribute fentanyl resulting in death.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, emergency personnel were dispatched to a Mission Valley apartment on Sept. 10 for a suspected overdose and found D.G. unconscious on the floor of a bathroom. She was taken to a hospital, where she died five days later.

A piece of foil with substances on it in the bathroom and pills located in the apartment’s kitchen tested positive for the presence of fentanyl and were tied to a sale involving the defendants, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

San Diego U.S. Attorney Tara McGrath said in a statement, “Behind every fatal overdose is a dealer who put someone’s life at risk. We are holding them accountable to stop the cycle of devastation they perpetuate.”
